Friday 4th August: Day out in APELDOORN

Surprise, surprse. We get up with sunshine. O happy day. What a luxery. The campers are in a good mood. Topday is the alterntive programme. Day out to the centre of Apeldoorn. The scottih coach needs 4 times driving to Apeldoorn. to tranport the 280 campers It takes about 30 minutes to drive per turn for the 30 km . The first coach departs at 9 am and the last at 1.15 pm. So people can spent about 4 hours in the centre for sightseeingand shopping and behouvior of dutch people. Lee (Sutton) had the experience of his life. Lee was walking in the Hoodfstraat (highstreet) with scouts Some unknown dutch gitls chased them for a while. Than suddenly one girl ""attacked" Lee giving him a kiss on his face, saying ""Ik vind je een lekker stuk"" (I like you) Lee does not know what to say/do. What a lovely surprise in Apeldoorn. It is quit bysu in the Highstree Because it is holiday time and Apeldoorn is full of tourists, stah spend trhe holydays on campings and bungalow parks in the surrounding woods. The shops are a temtation, speciasl for the sale preces. Much is preiced lower. In the home country you pay more, except the czechs. Czechia is the cheapest country of the Partnership towns. In the afternoon leaders sit on a sunny terres of a cafe with a lovely drink. Do'nt worry, be happy.. The last coach transport departs from the the nice Oranje park in the centre at 6.30 pm. Suddenly appears a unknown dutch scout. He lives in a house where the coach is parked. He looked out the window and saw all the foreign scouts. Gets his uniform from the wardrobe. Runs to our scouts and tells that he wants a photo of him with our scouts. A proof that our vistt to Apeldoorn in all our different uniforms is remarked. It shows also that we are friends when, when you wear your uniform. It makes contacts. People in the street ask us interested "where do you come from Interesting concersations follow. Some people tell you their own scouting memories. Back at the cmpsite at 7.15 pm there are already children waiting for the tuck shop opening. Todays menu is "lekkerbek"fried fish, rice, vegatbles, special sauce, and desert. There is plenty of it.. 7 pm starts the campfire in the campfire theatre At least dry weather after all the rain we had. We are allowed to make a fire. The sing songs and some acts are joint in happely by the children. It becomes an international programme by camp fire leaders of England (Ian King), Scotland (Eddie Portueous), Denmark (Frank Perge), Holland (Kris Hekhuis). We are happy singing I am singing in the rain”, glorious feeling, I am happy again” and ..... afain there are the showers. All run quick to the white tent to contimue the programme, now without the fire, but party lights (that do not work correct.). However keep smiling. The weather forcast for tomorrow is much better. We shall see in Amsterdam
