Thursday 3rd August
The night we did not keep it dry. The tents are inside dampy, But when we get up, there is hope for a dry day No rain at the moment. Cross fingers. The whole day are 2 hikes on the programme. A 1 day hike for the juniors and 2 days hike for thr seniors. The route is in the nice surroundings of the nature area called “Veluwe”” People walk in smlal groups guided by (ship) captains. The route can be found by different methods via the map, orienteering, compass, oleaat. Designs. At 10.30 am starts the first group in good dry weater conditions. But unfortunately it starts to rain again after a while. It becomes realy a deluge that seems never ending. The junios come back in time between 5 and 6 pm. Extremely wet. On the route are some stops with activities, like catching fishes, what is not difficult with so much water in the air. The camp organisation has to make emergency decisions (Disaster plan) to accord to the extreme wet weather. Decided is to to collect the senior walkers (approx 75 people) by the big scottish double deck coach at the overnight location, the scouting field “Zwarte Veldje””, 16 km away near Nunspeet. Bring all people back to the campsite home and take them the following morning to the location Nunspeet to contimue the other 16 kam hike. At approx 6.30 pm are all senior walkers back at the Nunspeet location. Some groups have problems to find the correct route. Be a good path finder. But find the correct route back. Good thing is that the rain stops the last hour. In the bus fall some people tired asleep.
