REUNION leaders Twin Town
2005 marked 35 years since, in 1970 the first international Twin Town Leaders Conference (TWITOCO) was held in Sutton The initiative to start the TWITOCO came from Ron Kinton (then DC Scouts Sutton) During the 35 years so many friendships have been made that are still alive. This Jubilee asked for an international celebration/reunion for people from all the Twin Towns, to meet old friends. The Reunion was held from 28 -30 october 2005 Sutton. Many scout/guide leaders came to Sutton to celebrate this event. At the Reunion party evening on Saturday 29 october were counted 77 people who signed the reception list. Paisley, Scotland 5, Apeldoorn, Holland 16, Gagny,France 3, Gladsaxe, Denmark 12, Pardubice-Prague, Czechia 4, Sutton, England 23.

The Party evening, the highlight of the Reunion , was really wonderful. Full of old Scouting/Guiding spirit. It was held in the Scouthall of the 1st Wallington Scoutgroup. The atmosphere was exellent. Time was too short. Although there was no official programme the whole evening was completely filled with activities and suprises done by the participants. For a start was there the exellent buffet-meal prepared and served by a team of 9 leaders and explorers of the 3rd Beddington Scoutgroup. Then each country surprisingly did produce entertainment as that was used to do at Leadersconferences and camps. ,Holland appeared beautifully dressed as Sinterklaas and black Peters and showed how dutch children celebrate the traditional Sinterklaas on 5 december. Gagny brought their childfriendly Clown with them. Gladsaxe got everybody on the dancefloor for a danish folklore dance. Pardubice/Prague was already in the Halloween mood and showed 2 male witches with good gifts . Sutton was mad with their dressed up folklore Morrisdancers with leg-bells and sticks and took every body on the dancefloor. No time to get bored. Lots of photo albums circulated and brought back good memories. The mayor mrs Lesley O'Connel joint in happely with all this activities and loved it so much that she did a enthusiast speech about international friendship and understanding, that we need so much in this days. Surprise were all the presents given by the countries to the jubilee organisers and the mayor. It was a honour that the founder of our Twin Town meetings (in 1970) , Ron Kinton, was present, as fit as ever, and told us in his speech that he was very happy and proud that the work he started is still alive.

But no only Saturday evening was most appreciated by every body. On Friday evening 28 oct. the participants enjoyd the famous english Gangshow performed by Scouts-Guides in the Secombe Theater in Sutton. This was a real Scouting-Guiding evening and all countries were wearing their uniforms. A colourful public. Foreigners were most impressed by this english show, they did not see before.

During the daytime the participants spent in London city at different places of interest, most with their host families. Very enjoyable relaxing time. A word of thankyou to all the hostfamilies, who were very helpfull like in the olden days .
The last meeting was Sundaymorning 30 oct. before departure at the Scouthall to attend a short ecumenical celebration about the meaning of practical dayly live with joining in happy singing and gitar music. Than the party was over. It was a great Jubilee Reunion party. All went home happy to their different countries full of impressions. It was good to look in the past, but more important to look at the future. Fortunately there were attending some young leaders to carry on the Twitoco flame. That looks good, because in August 2006 will be the Twin Town PAGGScamp in Holland, where about 250 children of the partnership towns will meet. We will carry on .
